FAQs

Do you cut logs to different lengths?
Yes, we can supply all sorts of different lengths. But only the small 9" logs fit will fit in our bags, so larger sizes are supplied as loose loads and can then be stacked. Please contact us for more details.
Do you use softwoods?
Not for firewood. They are less dense than the hardwoods we use, so the burn less efficiently, giving less value for money.
If your logs are very dry won't they burn faster?
No - the driest logs actually burn the most slowly. If a log is wet, the energy of the log is wasted evaporating the water. This also leaves nasty deposits up the chimney!
Do you use wood from sustainable sources?
Yes, we get our wood from thinning projects in this country where a selection of trees are cut down to make room and light for the surrounding trees to grow
Do you sell 'green' (non kiln dried) logs?
Yes we do. These are for the customer to season over a period of two years or so. Please contact us for details.
What species of tree do you use for logs?
All hardwoods, mainly Ash and Beech, but also a variety of other hardwoods such as Sycamore and Oak.
Do you stack logs?
Yes, on local deliveries. It is a great way to make your logs space-efficient and also look great. Please contact us for details prior to delivery.
What species of tree do you use for kindling?
For kindling we use mostly softwoods, except for poplar. We use species that split well and burn quickly to speed up the process of lighting a fire.
What are the advantages of your kindling?
All of our kindling is kiln dried and packaged in a similar way to our logs. It makes starting a fire hassle free!
Why is your kindling boxed rather than packaged in nets?
Nets are much easier to produce, but they don't stack as well as our boxes do, so they take up more room on the lorry. This increases the environmental impact of nets, so we use boxes instead and we think they look great too.
